True Wisdom Gives You Understanding

If you would, turn in your Bibles with me to the book of Proverbs chapter four. Proverbs chapter four.

We’ve talked about wisdom before. But we’re going to look at wisdom in a different light tonight. Amen? We’re going to look at wisdom in a different aspect of wisdom.

Proverbs chapter four, verse one through verse nine. And when you reach there, signify by saying amen. It says,

1. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Let us pray.

Most holy and gracious heavenly Father, we thank You for who You are and for what You do. Father, hide Your son behind the cross, that Your people would see You and not me. Father, as I decrease, I ask that You would increase. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, oh Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. In Jesus’ Name.

And the people of God said amen.

In this age of information knowledge is plentiful. But wisdom is scarce. Wisdom means far more than just knowing a lot. It is the basic attitude that affects every aspect of life.

The Bible declares (glory to God) in Proverbs chapter eight that even at the time of creation wisdom was there. When we look at wisdom, we can’t look at wisdom as if it’s a separate being, separate from God. But wisdom is actually the mind of God revealed to His people.

When we look at the body of Christ today, God has given us wisdom. But it’s up to us as the people of God to take this wisdom, and to digest this wisdom, and to not only digest this wisdom, but regurgitate it every time we get the chance to apply it. Because though I have wisdom, if I don’t apply it, it doesn’t mean anything.

Wisdom is the foundation on which all things were built. A person that understands true wisdom, they understand three things. Number one, they understand the fear of God. Number two, they understand that they must live in awe of His power. And number three (glory to God), they will obey His Word.

When we look at Proverbs chapter one... Go with me there. In verse twenty here is what it has to say. It says,

20. Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

In other words, God is saying wisdom is crying out. Because He wants this Scripture about wisdom to live for us. He doesn’t want it to just be words on a paper. But He wants it to leap up off the paper and live for us.

Who am I preaching to in this house? Am I the only one in this place, Lord? Come on, give God a handclap of praise today. Hallelujah.

In First Corinthians chapter two and verse sixteen, it tells us,

16. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

We have the revealed mind of God. When I begin to open up the Word of God, and I begin to turn the pages, and I begin to take in what the Word of God says, it begins to change my thinking. And I begin to take on His thinking. Not only do I take on His thinking. I take on his heart. So not my heart but His heart. My God, my God.

I don’t think the way man thinks. But I’ve got divine thinking. My thinking becomes what is called supernatural. You see, I can take (glory to God) my wisdom and apply it. But if I take the Anointing of God from the Word of God from the heart of God, there’s nothing that shall be impossible unto me.

The mind of Christ has been given unto us. Jesus said, “My meat is to do the will of the Father that sent Me.” That’s the mind of Christ. Never mind about me. But I’m going to take on the mind of Christ. Because if I got the mind of Christ, everything else is going to line up with... Oh, my God, my God. It’s going to line up in my life.

The Bible says, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God.” The Kingdom of God is the mind of God. You see, you have got to find out what God is thinking.

You see, never mind what somebody else is thinking. We’re always trying to pick somebody else’s thoughts. But I don’t want to know what man is thinking. I want to know what God is thinking. Oh, do you hear what I’m saying tonight?

You see, if I understand what God is thinking, then no matter what the situation or the circumstance in my life, I know that it’s going to work out for my good. It may be painful right now. But these light afflictions cannot be compared to the glory that’s going to be revealed on the...

Oh, my God. You better clap your hands for Jesus in this house.

Wisdom is the revealed mind of God. You see, we don’t understand a lot of times that even though the Bibles says that wisdom is easy to be entreated for, God is not going to give His wisdom to those that are rebellious, those that are stubborn, those that are walking in anger. He’s not going to give it to them. Because He’s hiding it from them.

There were two parts, two ways that wisdom can come to you. It can come to you like it came to Solomon as a gift. Or it can come to you because you searched it out.

You see, many of us don’t have the gift of wisdom. But God has made it available unto us through the Scripture. But it’s up to me and it’s up to you to search the Scripture. Because in the Scripture you will find out what Daddy has to say.

Can we get intimate for a little while with Him? You see, we can call Him God, but I’d rather call Him Father. And I’d rather call Him even the more Daddy.

I want to come to Daddy and say, “Daddy, what are You thinking right now? Not only what are you thinking about me. But what are you thinking in general for Your people?”

You see, when we look at Jeremiah and we look at Isaiah and we look at Ezekiel, they wanted to know what was in the mind of God. Because what they were doing, they were crying out what God was thinking in the earth. They were speaking the word of God that God was giving unto them.

You see, when you really have a relationship with Him, it won’t be, “Give me, give me, give me.” Let me say that again. Oh, my God. I must be preaching to myself tonight.

You see, when I got a relationship, a real relationship with somebody, it’s not based on the “give me’s.” It’s based on love. It’s based on what can I do for you? “Good morning, Holy Spirit. What do You want from me today?”

He’ll reveal the wisdom of God to me. That’s what the Holy Spirit will do. He will touch me in a way that nobody else can touch me. He’ll speak to my spirit and cause me to rise up in strength and to go on in this race that God has given to me.

Who’s mind have you been trying to pick? Are you worried about what your boss is thinking, or are you worried about what your Father is thinking?

Saints of God, no matter what it is you need, God has the answer.

The Bible says that money is a defense, in Ecclesiastes. But it also says that wisdom is a defense.

See, most of us ain’t got no money. Hello, somebody. So money ain’t our defense. See, we be trying to search and trying to get, all the time trying to get. But that ain’t your defense. Wisdom is your defense.

Wisdom is the principle thing. In other words, it’s the number one thing. That word “principle” means number one. It’s the primary thing that I need. So why do we search for everything else except for wisdom?

The Bible says in James, if any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth liberally and upbraideth not. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.

Wisdom. What do you want tonight? You don’t just want a prophetic word. You want God to give you some wisdom. Do you hear what I’m saying? Wisdom will take you so far. If I allow wisdom to come to me in every aspect of my life, then it will take me to my destiny.

You see, when you look at Moses, the Bible said in the book of Acts chapter seven and verse twenty through verse twenty-two, it talks about how Moses learned all the wisdom of the Egyptians. And then God turned around and gave him His wisdom. So when he went back into the enemy’s camp (you don’t hear me) he already knew all about the enemy.

See, we can’t continue to try to go in the enemy’s camp, and we don’t know the situation. We don’t know nothing about the enemy. The enemy will tear your head off if you walk in ignorance. He said, “My people are destroyed for,” what? A lack of knowledge. I feel Jesus up in here.

I tell you all one thing that I told the Lord. I said, “Lord, I’m going to live holy the rest of my days.” And I feel what Jesus is doing with me. My God, my God. Thank You, Lord.

He learned for a season. He was in the midst of his enemies for a season.

You see, a lot of us are in the midst of our enemies on our jobs, in different situations. You’re in their midst for a season. You get what you need to get. But then when it’s time for you to come out...

Don’t just be there complaining and murmuring that they ain’t this and they ain’t doing that. You better get what you need to get. Because if you get the wisdom of God, you ain’t leaving there broke. You don’t hear me tonight. You ain’t leaving there without your stuff. Oh, my God. Who am I preaching to in this house tonight?

You ain’t leaving broke. Talking about a little severance package. The devil is a lie. I’m going to have stock in your company. I’m going to be a shareholder in your company. Because I done got the wisdom of God on my life. And I know exactly where you going.

Come on, give God a handclap of praise in this house.

Wisdom is the revealed mind of God. You see, in order to get the revealed mind of God, you got to spend a little time with Him. See, you can’t come to God talking about you want God to tell you something, but you don’t want to give Him no time. Hello, somebody.

See, there are three dimensions on there. But we tend to stay in this realm. But the Bible says that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I don’t have to stay in this realm. I’m in a heavenly realm.

And if you don’t like it, and if you don’t watch it, I’m going to be in the third realm where... Oh, my God. Where the beasts and the elders cry, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.”

Wisdom will tell me that I don’t need to stay here in this realm all the time. Wisdom will tell me that I need to get in His atmosphere. I need to take a little trip.

There’s a Scripture in the Bible that talks about... I believe it was Jacob, how he saw angels ascending and descending. In order for him to see that, that was a place in prayer. That was a place in spending time with God. That was a place of being at His feet and worshiping at His foot stool.

God is not just going to show you something just to show you, so you can say how spiritual you are. God’s got a reason for showing you. He had a reason to show Jacob angels ascending and descending.

Wisdom is what you and I need. We can’t continue to flow in the dark. But you know the Bible says we walk by faith and not by sight.

But let me tell you something about wisdom. Wisdom has eyes to see. Wisdom said she was there from creation. Wisdom... Wisdom knows all about this thing. Wisdom is going to cause me to be able to understand that He holds tomorrow. And if He can take care of the sparrows, my God, He can surely take care of little old me.

Saints of God, I don’t care where you’re going. I don’t care where you been. You and I need wisdom. We need wisdom so that we can carry out and fulfill the things of God in the earth.

In Proverbs... Now let me do, give you this contrast. In Proverbs chapter one and verse twenty-two, this is what wisdom had to say. She said,

22. How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

In other words, she was talking to those that were walking in folly. She was asking a question. “How long are you going to stay there and get beat up? How long are you going to stay where you are and allow the devil to take you out every other day?”

When we look at what a fool is, a fool is not someone that has a mental deficiency. That’s not who they are. A fool is someone that has a deficiency in their character. There’s something about them that needs to change.

In other words, what they do is, they want to try to walk in their own wisdom. And when they walk in their own wisdom, they’re in what we call idolatry. Because God said, “I won’t have no other god before Me.” And they walk in that place all the time.

And when I walk in man’s wisdom, the spirit of pride is going to begin to erect in me as a monument. And though God may try to speak to me, I don’t want to hear what God got to say. Because God don’t got the answer. I got the answer.

But when I’m seeking God’s wisdom, what I’m really telling the Lord is, “Lord, I don’t know. I don’t know nothing. I need You to show me, Lord. I need You to teach me, Lord. I need You to take me by the hand and lead me on.” That’s what you’re acknowledging. You’re acknowledging how feeble you are.

Have you ever been in a place where you just needed to tell God how feeble you are? Oh, you ain’t never been there? Have you ever been in a place where you needed to tell God, “Lord, I’m like the blades of grass. And if You don’t come and save me, after a while I’m going to wither up, and I’m going to die.” You ain’t never been there.

You acknowledge that He is the Lord of all creation. Just like the psalmist said, you begin to proclaim, “What is man that Thou art mindful of him? What is the son of man that You would even come and visit him? Lord, I’m nothing. I need Your wisdom. I can’t do it without You. And not only can I do it. I don’t want to do it without You.”

See, that’s the key right there. See, it’s one thing that you can’t do it. But it’s another thing that you don’t want to do it. That’s a place of humility with God.

What are you asking God for?

When Joshua followed Moses, he obtained Moses’ wisdom.

You see, when you’re following a man or a woman of God, you’re not just following them. You’re not just following them so you can take a peak up under their garment and see the mantle and the Anointing. That’s not why you following them.

But you’re going to be around them. And you’re going to see how they do things. And you’re going to learn from the good things that they do. And you’re going to learn from the mistakes that they make.

And though Moses was not able to take them in the promised land, Joshua learned enough that he could take them there. Why? Because he learned from the good, and he learned from the... Oh, give God a handclap of praise in this house.

Oh, you remember Joseph, don’t you? God gave Joseph wisdom. God revealed to Joseph that there was going to be a famine that was going to come into the land. There would be seven years of plenteous and seven years of famine. But God gave him the wisdom that during the time of plenty to put something back.

You see, that’s where we have got to get to the place that every dime that we get, the mall don’t get it. We got to learn to put something back. Because the Bible says in Ecclesiastes the day of adversity is laid over against the day of what? Prosperity. There will be another time of adversity that will come in your life.

But wisdom will tell me to put something back for the day of adversity. And while everybody else is in a depression, you ain’t in no depression. You ain’t in no recession. But you in a place of prosperity.

You’ve learned how to become busy like the ant. And you’ve left that sluggard spirit behind. You stored up something for the winter. Because in everybody’s life there’s going to be some snow. But when the snow come, you still got what you have saved to get you through that hard time.

Wisdom is the revealed mind of God. Somebody need to write that down tonight. My God. It’s what’s in God’s mind. He said His thoughts were not our thoughts and His ways were not our ways. His ways were not our ways.

But He’s given us the mind of Christ. And if we have the mind of Christ, that means that we have the mind of the Godhead Trinity. And everything He said in the book shall surely come to pass. You can try to hope it away. You can try to wish it away. But by golly wall or whatever it’s coming to pass.

Will you search for it tonight? Will you search for wisdom tonight? Will you search for her as hidden treasure?

We’ll search for a mate. We’ll search for finances. We’ll look for love in all the wrong places, won’t we? But the Bible said wisdom is crying out. She’s saying, “Won’t you come into me?”

The Bible contrasts wisdom with an adulteress woman, how she cries in the street for her lover. Oh, you better have a spiritual ear. That’s how she’s crying. She said, “Come into my house, and I’ll take care of you.”

Won’t you cry out for her? Will you do it? Will you do it? Will you not wait for somebody and hope for somebody else to do it for you? Will you do it? Will you get your own relationship with Him? Oh, you don’t hear me tonight.

Don’t you want to be able to climb up in His lap for yourself and say, “Daddy, I love You. I love You. I love You, Jesus. I love You, I love You”? Don’t you want to be able to do it? And don’t you want to be able to feel Him every now and then?

I couldn’t serve Him if I couldn’t feel Him every now and then. I couldn’t do it. He’s given me feelings. I don’t go by my feelings. So even when I don’t feel Him I know He’s there. He’s Emmanuel, God with us. I know He’s there. But every now and then, Jesus, I got to feel You. Hey, my God, my God.

I got to feel You. I need You to hold me. I need You to talk to me. I need You to tell me how much You love me, and that You’ll never leave me nor forsake me.

I don’t know about you, but I need it. I need it. I ain’t all that that I don’t need it. I need it. I haven’t arrived to the place where I don’t need it. I need it. I don’t never want to arrive to the place where I... Oh, my God. Who am I preaching to tonight? I don’t never want to get to that place where I don’t need my Savior.

Lord, I love You with all of my heart.

Lift your hands to Him.
