The Fear of the Lord: Part 1

Open up your Bibles with me to the book of Exodus chapter forty. Exodus chapter forty.

The tabernacle is commanded to be reared and anointed. And Aaron and his sons were to be sanctified. And a cloud covered the tabernacle.

In Exodus chapter forty, beginning with verse twenty-nine, it said,

29. And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the Lord commanded Moses.

30. And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.

31. And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet thereat:

32. When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the Lord commanded Moses.

33. And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

34. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

35. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

36. And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:

37. But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.

38. For the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

Let us pray.

Most holy and gracious heavenly Father, we thank You that we have come, and we have assembled together in Your Name. God, we thank You for Your Anointing that's present that removes burdens and destroys yokes. Let Your people hear Your Word tonight. Let it go forth unhindered by the works of flesh, by the powers of darkness. In the Name of Jesus.

Hide Your servant behind the cross, that Your people would see You and not me. Father, as I decrease, I ask that You would increase. And finally, let the word of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, oh Lord, my strength, and my Redeemer. In Jesus Name. Amen.

It said,

34. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle meeting, because a cloud rested above it. And the Glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

God's Glory manifesting and abiding among Israel brought tremendous blessings. Whenever the Presence of the Lord is around you (glory to God), you can rest assure that there'll be provision. You'll rest assure that there'll be healing. You can rest assure that there will be protection whenever the Glory of the Lord is around. Glory to God.

None of our enemies (hallelujah, Holy Ghost) will be able to stand in our way. No foe (glory to God) will be able to enter into our presence, as long as the Glory is there. The Word was being manifested in abundance. Revelation was going all around the tabernacle that, "This is the Lord's house." The Glory of God.

The Cloud shaded them from the heat of the desert during the day. But then the Fire even gave them warmth during the cold that was during the night.

What does it mean to have the Glory present? What does it mean to have God all around you? What does it mean to have direction and guidance from the Spirit of the Lord? It means that we must respect Him. That's what it means. It means (glory to God) that we must reverence Him. That's what it means. It means that we must be consecrated and washed and set aside and meet for the Master's use. That's what it means. It means that we must have the fear of the Lord. Hallelujah to Jesus.

The fear of the Lord, the Bible says, is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of the Lord. Whenever God is present, we should have a holy reverence. We should operate in the fear of the Lord.

In Exodus twenty-eight and verse one, God instructed Moses. He said, "Now take Aaron your brother, and his sons with him from among the children of Israel, that he may minister (glory to God) to Me as priest."

Aaron and Aaron's sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, these men were to be set apart, and they were to be trained for the service of priest of the Lord. But what happened? They were set aside. And they were trained. But they got too familiar with God.

Let me tell you what happens in a prophetic ministry. When God begins to move and the Word of God is in abundance and the Glory of God is liable to come into the house at any point in time, we become familiar with the move of God. You don't hear me. We become too close to God, and we begin to think that we know what God is about to do.

That's why we can't praise Him the way we ought to praise Him. You don't hear me. That's why we can't worship Him the way we're supposed to worship Him, because we become too familiar with the Glory.

They were trained and they were set apart to minister as priests, and to stand in the gap for the people in prayer. Oh, hallelujah. I feel Jesus up in here tonight. Their duties and their perimeters for worship were outlined specifically because God had given them to Moses. Glory to God. And Moses passed them down to them.. Following instruction. They were to be consecrated.

You see, you can't do anything for God until you're consecrated. You don't hear me. You can't get up and just do something for God until you're consecrated. You can't do something for God until God places His hand upon you and places His approval upon you and says, "Go forth and do what I've told you to do."

They were to be consecrated. Their training was a part of divine order. With everything in place, Aaron and his sons began their ministry. Glory to God in this house. But two of the sons didn't operate in the fear of the Lord.

In Leviticus ten and verse one it said Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censor and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord which He had not commanded them.

That word "profane" means that they disrespected the Lord. They brought contempt to the altar. They began to touch the things that was supposed to be holy (glory to God) with fleshly hands. They didn't have the fear or the Lord. They were irreverent towards the things of God.

Let me stop and say something. Too many of us what to do something, but we don't have the fear of the Lord. Too many of us want to touch the things of God, but we're irreverent to who He is. We don't respect Him as being God. If God calls you His friend, it's not just like a regular friend. He's still God, and God all by Himself. Oh Holy Ghost, help me tonight.

They touched the things of God with fleshly hands.

In Leviticus ten and verse ten and verse two, it said so fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

They became too familiar with His Presence. You cannot come into the service of God to perform the service of God any old kind of way. Oh, you don't hear me tonight. You have got to be consecrated before you touch the sanctified and holy things of God. You have got to make sure that you've got your heart right and your motive is pure. Oh, you don't hear me yet.

It said fire came down and destroyed them. See, you can't come to the house of God and try to put on a show. Oh, you don't hear me. He said, "No flesh shall glory in My Presence."

It was so intense. They became bold enough to do what they wanted to do when God gave them specific instruction through Moses.

Let me tell you something. When your pastor tells you specifically how to do something and you rebel against it, you're rebelling against God. I don't care what they tell you to do. As long as it lines up with the Word, and you don't do it, you're rebelling against God. It's when it doesn't line up with the Word that there should be a question mark in your mind.

They decided to do it (oh Jesus, I feel You here today) the way they wanted to do it. You don't hear me.

I can't preach it the way I want to preach it. You can't sing it the way you want to... You don't hear me. You can't teach it the way you... You can't play it the way you want to... The Holy Ghost has got to be in control for the Cloud to come.

Don't you want the Cloud to come? Don't you want the Glory of God to fill the place? You didn't come to see me. You came to see God. He's God all by Himself, and He don't need no help. Oh, I feel the Holy Ghost all over me tonight.

They did it the way they wanted to do it.

Let me tell you how intense it got. In Leviticus ten and verse three it says, "And Moses said to Aaron, 'This is what the Lord spoke, saying, "By those who come near Me, by those who come near Me, by those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy."'" Do you hear the Lord tonight?

When Moses had come down from Mount Sinai, they were afraid. But see, they shouldn't have been afraid. They didn't need to be afraid, because God had given Moses instruction. And he told them to go consecrate themselves, not only consecrate themselves, but tell them to wash their clothes too. Oh, you don't hear me.

"You mean it's that deep?"

It's that deep.

He said, "Those that come near Me must regard Me as being holy." Let me say that again. If you're going to come into the Presence of the Lord, you and I have got to regard Him as being holy. And when we get up to do something, we need to ask the Holy Ghost, "Is this the way You want it done?" And if something starts to operate outside of the Word, you need to bind the devil, even if you have to start all over again.

He said, "I must be regarded as holy. And before all the people, I must be glorified."

So Aaron held his peace. He didn't even say anything about it. Those two came from his very loins. But God was speaking so intently, he couldn't even say anything, Sister Shirley. Oh, I feel the Holy Ghost. Those were his two sons that he brought up since they were babies. But the things of God were so precious and God was speaking so intently that the daddy couldn't even say anything about it.

God is no different today than the way He was back then. In these last days, you're going to start to see folks drop dead. You don't hear me. They can try to pretend all they want to pretend. If you ain't living right... You don't hear me. If you're not living right... I ain't talking about owing bills. I ain't talking about that. I'm talking about living right. Then you better watch out. Because if judgment must first begin, it must begin at the house of God.

He judged them. He really judged them. They had an attitude of disrespect.

It was such a judgment that even though Aaron was the father and Moses was the uncle, and they were brothers, Moses warned them not to even mourn over them, lest they die as well. Somebody say something to me tonight. He said, "Don't even mourn over them lest you die." And we got the nerve to sit in the house of God with an attitude. You don't hear me tonight.

Prophets can't even speak that intensely now days because the people can't even handle it. Because we don't serve God the way they served God. Yeah, they fell into sin. But God judged them every time you turned around. They went into captivity every time you turned around.

We better really be lifting up the Name of Jesus. Thank God for Jesus. Thank God for the Blood of the Lamb, of the Crucified One. Thank God. Because we would not be here today if it wasn't for Jesus.

He said, "Don't even mourn over them, because the Lord is in a position and He's so serious right now, He's going to take you out too."

Then it said their bodies were carried outside the camp and buried. They weren't even buried within the camp. They were taken outside like outcasts and buried. Why? Because they didn't do it the way the Lord said to do it. That's deep to me.

The fear of the Lord has got to come back to the body of Christ. If you can't reverence a man or a woman of God, then there's no way you can reverence God. Because they stand (glory to God) in that place (you don't hear me tonight) especially ones that are trying to do right and trying to live holy. He said, "Touch not Mine anointed, and do My prophets no harm."

The Glory was so precious. He was warning them. He said, "You are taking this thing too lightly. You are taking it too lightly." That's deep. "I'm right here with you. I'm right here in the midst of you. And you won't give Me my just do. You feel My Presence, not only feel it; I have manifested Myself to the point where you can see a physical manifestation." Oh, my God, my God. And you want to do it the way you want to do it.

Solomon said in Ecclesiastes twelve and verse thirteen,

13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

He wanted to sum it all up for us. Now almost five hundred years later we have King David. And now it's time to build the temple. And David is giving his son Solomon instruction.

Go with me to First Chronicles. I want to show you something. In First Chronicles chapter twenty-two, verse fourteen through verse sixteen,

14. Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the Lord an hundred thousand talents of gold...

And he went on to say the things that he had ordained to go into the house of God and building the house, and the things that were consecrated to go into the house. But with all of the men, tens of thousands of men that were working on the house, it still took seven years to complete the work.

In Second Chronicles five and one it said, "So all the work that Solomon had done for the house of the Lord was finished." Seven years of building His house, and we get tired after one. We want to leave after two. And after three, you can forget it.

Seven years. Seven is a completion number. Seven years to complete it, to get it the way God wanted it. They paid so close attention to detail. Nothing was out of place. And they reverenced God for who He was.

In Second Chronicles chapter five, and in verse thirteen and verse fourteen, it went on to say that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the Cloud (here we go with the Cloud again), for the Glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.

You see, when the Glory comes, you don't have need for a man. See, when the Glory comes, you don't need me to stand here. You don't hear me tonight. He comes to do everything that He planned to do by Himself. Moses could not enter in, and now the ministers could not even stand to minister.

We need to go back to the time of the Glory Cloud that filled the house of God. Aren't you tired of seeing flesh? Oh, my God, my God. I want to see the Lord.

But once again in Second Chronicles thirty-six, verse fourteen through sixteen, and sixteen through nineteen, once again they became irreverent. And they once again became too familiar with His Presence. Their hearts grew careless towards the things of God. And yet these people were not strangers to His Glory. My God, my God.

When the Glory of the Lord fills the place, there should be a holy reverence that takes place. There should be such a reverence for who He is. There should be such a respect that, "What is man that Thou art mindful of him, that You would come and visit him?"

We're like grass that withers away, but yet still God will come and visit us. He will come and make His abode with us. He will come and dwell with us. He already knows what you have need of tonight. He knows all about the situation. He knows what they said. He knows what they did. He already knows about it.

So why not worship Him, in spite of what's going on in our lives, in spite of the trials and the tribulation in our lives? I'm going to worship Him anyway. I don't care what nobody says. I'm going to worship Him. I don't care what anybody does. It may hurt for a little while. But weeping may endure for a night, but joy's going to come in the morning. Yes it is, yes it is, yes it is.

When you know who He is, when you have a relationship with Him, you can be like Stephen when he looked up (hallelujah) when they were about to stone him. Oh, hallelujah Jesus. And they stoned him. You can be like that. It doesn't matter. You can give up the ghost. Because it's all about Him. And I don't know about you, but I'm working to see His face.

(Singing,)

I'm working to see His face. I want to see Jesus. I want to see Jesus. I don't know about you. I want to see Jesus. I want to see. I, I, I want to see His face. I want to see Jesus.

Stand on your feet tonight.
